ZITAT* XD-7 (model a) -- (1977)

* XD (model a) -- (1977)
Sold in the Japanese market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD-11 (model b) -- (1978)
On the XD-11 (model the chrome, metal meter compensation tab is changed to a black, plastic tab. Otherwise the features of the camera are the same.
* XD-7 (model b) -- (1978)
Sold in the European market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD (model b) -- (1978)
Sold in the Japanese market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD-11 (model c) -- (1979)
The change on the XD-11 (model c) is that the 1/125 shutter speed is now marked in green to use with the shutter-preferred automatic exposure mode. All other speeds (except X) are still in white. Any shutter speed could be used in shutter-preferred mode, of course, but Minolta felt that 1/125 was a good, safe starting point for the average photographer to use in this exposure mode. The minimum f-stop on the new MD lenses was marked in the same color -- a reminder that the lens needed to be set at this f-stop for use in shutter-preferred mode.
* XD-7 (model c) -- (1979)
Sold in the European market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD (model c) -- (1979)
Sold in the Japanese market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD-11 50 ANNIVERSARY -- (1979)
The year 1979 was the 50th anniversary of the first Minolta camera, the Nifcalette of 1929. They made a special version of the XD-11, in celebration. Before the release, Minolta held competitions through its Contact Sheet newsletter, to determine who was in possession of the oldest Minolta camera. A guy from Alaska had the oldest model, and was awarded one of the special edition cameras. All of the XD-11 50 ANNIVERSARY features were the same as the XD-11 (model c), but "50 ANNIVERSARY" was etched on the front and the covering was available in different leathers. Very few were made, so XD-11 lovers covet this camera. The only question is, will they actually use it to take pictures?
* XD-7 50 ANNIVERSARY -- (1979)
Sold in the European market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD 50 ANNIVERSARY -- (1979)
Sold in the Japanese market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD-11 (model d) -- (1980)
The XD-11 (model d) has the exposure compensation dial in nearly the same location as the earlier models but now it faces toward the prism of the camera -- perhaps making it more difficult to move unintentionally.
* XD-11 MEDICAL (model a) -- (1980)
The XD-11 MEDICAL is a modified XD-11 (model d) that was designed only for use with an electronic flash. As a result, many features were removed since they were not needed. First, it only had a single shutter speed -- X. It has the shutter speed dial, but it is locked in place and has only the one marked speed. Similarly, since the exposure is set by the flash, the camera lacks the film ISO setting, the exposure modes settings, a meter, metering viewfinder information, and the exposure compensation adjuster. Very popular with opthamologists.
* XD-7 (model d) -- (1980)
Sold in the European market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD (model d) -- (1980)
Sold in the Japanese market. All of the camera features are the same.
* XD-s (model a) -- (1980)
The XD-s (model a) is the same as the XD (model d) but it has the added feature of a diopter adjustment of the viewfinder. Marketed only in Japan.
* XD-s MEDICAL (model a) -- (1980)
The XD-s MEDICAL is a modified XD-s (model a) that was designed only for use with an electronic flash.
* XD-11 (model e) -- (1981)
The final variant, the XD-11 (model e) shows the new "all caps" MINOLTA logo, but is otherwise the same as the XD-11 (model d).
* XD-11 MEDICAL (model b) -- (1981)
The XD-11 MEDICAL (model b) shows the new "all caps" MINOLTA logo, but is otherwise the same as the XD-11 MEDICAL (model a).
