Die a5000 von Sony betritt als kleinste und leichteste Digitalkamera mit APS-C Sensor, Wechselobjektiven, Blitz und integriertem WiFi die Bühne auf der Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Stylish und technisch auf dem neuesten Stand bietet sie mit ihrem 20,1 Megapixel APS-C Sensor im DSLR-Format, ihren Netzwerkfunktionen und ihrer Erweiterbarkeit durch PlayMemories Camera Apps alle Optionen, die man von einer modernen Kamera dieses Standards erwarten darf.

Wer die neue a5000 (Alpha 5000) von Sony in den Händen hält und ausprobiert, erkennt sofort: Endlich passt eine Kamera mit Wechselobjektiven, die Fotos in gleicher Qualität wie eine digitale Spiegelreflexkamera schießt, in so gut wie jede Tasche. Die 210 Gramm leichte (nur Gehäuse, ohne Akku), 109,6 x 62,8 x 35,7 Millimeter große und stylishe Kamera mit eingebautem Blitzlicht eignet sich somit als vorübergehender sowie als dauerhafter Spiegelreflexkamera-Ersatz.

Bildsensor und Bildprozessor der neuesten Generation

Für die gegenüber dem Vorgänger verbesserte Bildqualität ist allen voran der Exmor APS-C HD CMOS Bildsensor mit effektiv 20,1 Megapixel Auflösung verantwortlich. Sein großzügiges Spiegelreflexkamera-Format ermöglicht es, weit mehr Bildinformationen einzufangen als mit dem Vorgängermodell. Zusätzlich erweitert und optimiert der Bildprozessor der neuesten Generation BIONZ X das Bildergebnis. Exakt der gleiche Mini-Rechner kommt auch in den Vollformatkameras a7 und a7R zum Einsatz.

Die Aufgabe von Bildsensor und -prozessor ist es, Details jedes Motivs so realistisch wie möglich herauszuarbeiten. Dabei gilt es, das Bildrauschen dort zu reduzieren, wo es nötig ist. Auch Oberflächenstrukturen können ab sofort noch feiner und rauschärmer abgebildet werden – und dies alles bei einer Lichtempfindlichkeit von bis zu ISO 16.000.

Für ein ungetrübtes Fotovergnügen und um alle Nachbearbeitungsoptionen offen zu halten, speichert die a5000 Fotos auch im unkomprimierten RAW-Format ab. Videos filmt sie im AVCHD- oder MP4-Standard. Als Speichermedien können sowohl Memory Sticks als auch SD/SDHC/SDXC-Speicherkarten verwendet werden.

Einfache Handhabung und erleichterte Bedienung

Schon beim Anfassen kann man die verbesserte Handhabung der a5000 sofort be- und ergreifen: Dank des optimierten Griffs liegt sie fest in der Hand – auch wenn man den Arm ausstreckt, um zum Beispiel ein Selbstportrait zu schießen. Da sich der 7,5 Zentimeter große LCD-Monitor um 180 Grad aufklappen lässt, kann man sich bei solch einem "Selfie" sogar selbst auf dem Display betrachten und somit die Aufnahme kontrollieren. Und damit man dabei noch besser aussieht, glätten die Gesichtserkennung und vor allem die Funktion "Soft Skin Effect" auf Wunsch automatisch die Haut und tilgen kleine Fältchen. Wer bei den Powerzoom-Objektiven den optischen Zoom nutzen möchte, findet an der Kamera intuitiv einen kleinen Hebel, der sich leicht mit dem Finger bedienen lässt, ohne dass die Kamera dabei ins Wackeln gerät.

Per NFC und WiFi schnell in Verbindung mit Handy und Tablet

Die WiFi-Funktion in der a5000 ist so einfach zu bedienen, dass eine Berührung genügt, um die Kamera automatisch mit einem NFC-kompatiblen Android-Smartphone oder -Tablet-PC zu verbinden. Sobald die Verbindung steht, kann man Fotos tauschen oder das Mobilgerät als Fernbedienung – zum Beispiel für den Auslöser – nutzen.

PlayMemories Camera Apps erweitern die Funktionen

Mit den PlayMemories Camera Apps schafft Sony für seine Kunden die Möglichkeit, ihre Kamera nach Belieben mit Funktionen zu erweitern und einzurichten. Egal ob kostenlose oder gebührenpflichtige Apps: mit den zusätzlichen Effekten und Hilfsprogrammen kann jeder Nutzer die Kamera ganz nach seinen persönlichen Vorstellungen einrichten.

Ein Beispiel hierfür ist die neueste Version 2.0 der App "Zeitraffer". Sie erstellt Zeitrafferaufnahmen nun in verschiedenen Varianten. Ganz neu dagegen ist "Sync to Smartphone", eine App für den automatischen Transfer auf ein zuvor entsprechend eingerichtetes Smartphone oder Tablet sobald die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird. So sind die Aufnahmen immer in Sicherheit, selbst wenn die Speicherkarte verloren geht.
Ist auf dem Mobilgerät die PlayMemories Online App installiert und die All Sync Funktion aktiviert, werden die Bilder in einer Auflösung von zwei Megapixel anschließend automatisch zu "PlayMemories Online" hochgeladen.

Fotogestaltung noch vor der Aufnahme überprüfen

Mit "Photo Creativity" bietet einzig Sony eine intuitive Funktion, die dem Nutzer ohne Fotografie-Kenntnisse die volle Kontrolle über die Auswirkung spezieller Effekte oder einer Tiefenunschärfe auf das Bildergebnis gibt. Er muss hierfür nur den entsprechenden Knopf drücken und am Stellrad die gewünschte Bildeinstellung vornehmen, schon zeigt sich das Motiv auf dem Bildschirm in geänderter Version.

Ebenso praktisches wie modisches Zubehör

Wer seine a5000 regelmäßig nutzt, legt sicher Wert auf passendes Zubehör. So schützt zum Beispiel die Tasche LCS-EBB die Kamera nicht nur vor Beschädigungen, Wind und Wetter, dank ihres modischen Designs passt sie zudem perfekt zum stylischen und eleganten Auftritt der Kamera. Nicht minder praktisch ist das Zubehör-Kit ACC-TRW. Es enthält das Akku-Ladegerät BC-TRW und den Zusatz-Akku NP-FW50.

Letztlich steht der neuen a5000 auch das umfassende Angebot an verfügbaren E-Mount-Objektiven offen. Um auch hierbei äußerlich ein gutes Bild abzugeben, ist das vielseitige Telezoom-Objektiv SEL-55210 mit seiner Brennweitenreichweite von 55 bis 210 mm (F4.5-6.3 OSS) jetzt auch in Schwarz erhältlich. Schließlich will die neue a5000 nicht nur fototechnisch, sondern auch äußerlich ein Schmuckstück sein.

LAS VEGAS (CES Booth #14200), Jan. 6, 2014 – The versatile new Sony α5000 camera (model ILCE-5000) is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera to feature the convenience of Wi-Fi connectivity. [1] Weighing in at less than 8oz., the new camera boasts a formidable amount of imaging power for its size.

"Packing DSLR imaging power into an incredibly small and light package, our new α5000 is the ultimate ‘everyday shooter’ that will appeal to a wide range of customers,” said Neal Manowitz, director of the alpha interchangeable lens camera division at Sony. The new camera features a large 20.1 MP APS-C sized sensor that is paired with a new-generation BIONZ® X processor – the same processor in the award winning Sony α7 and α7R full-frame cameras. These key devices work together to deliver crisp, high-quality still images and full HD videos in all types of shooting conditions.

The BIONZ X processor uses detail reproduction, area-specific noise reduction and diffraction reducing technologies to ensure extremely fine color textures and low noise in images. Additionally, it allows for shooting at extremely high sensitivity – up to ISO 16000 – for impressive pictures in fading light.

On-board Wi-Fi capabilities give consumers one-touch connection with Xperia® or NFC-compatible Android™ smartphones or tablets for instant image transfer and sharing [2]. A single touch also activates Smart Remote Control, linking the camera with a smartphone or tablet to view shots, and fire the shutter from a distance.

For devices without NFC one-touch capabilities, users can wirelessly transfer images and videos and activate Smart Remote Control with the α5000 camera through Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile™ application, available for the iOS and Android platforms.

The new α5000 model has a comfortable new grip and intuitive tiltable LCD screen that can flip upwards up to 180 degrees for easy self-portraits. There’s also a conveniently placed lever on the camera body for fingertip adjustment of the camera’s optical zoom [3], which is especially useful for shooting HD video with the supplied 16-50mm power zoom kit lens (model SEL-P1650).

The camera’s "Photo Creativity” mode will help less experienced photographers learn and experiment with creative settings. Unique to Sony, this mode replaces complex photographic settings with more easily understood phrases like "Background Defocus” and "Brightness,” giving users direct access to many common manual settings. It also offers quick and easy access to Picture Effects, which includes popular modes like Pop Color, Selective Color, Toy Camera and Miniature Mode.

Sony PlayMemories™ Camera Apps

The growing assortment of downloadable PlayMemories Camera Apps adds a range of exciting and powerful features to the α5000 camera. Shooters can pick from a variety of free to nominal cost apps to broaden creative options, experiment with new effects, learn new photography techniques and more.

There are 16 apps currently available, including an upgraded version of "Time Lapse 2.0,” which intelligently and automatically adjusts exposure for changing lighting conditions over of the course of a time lapse sequence. A new free "Sync to Smartphone” app automatically transfers shots to a pre-registered smartphone or tablet each time the camera is switched off.

New Sony Alpha Lenses and Accessories

The new camera is compatible with Sony’s ever-growing assortment of E-mount interchangeable lenses, which now includes a new version of the popular SEL-55210 lens (55-210mm, F4.5-6.3). Identical in optics to the existing silver 55-210mm E-mount zoom lens, this new version has a black finish to match many of Sony’s latest E-mount cameras.

In total, 20 different lenses are now available for Sony’s E-mount system with several premium models from Carl Zeiss® and G Series Lenses.

Additionally, there is a new sleek designed body case – the LCS-EBB model – that serves as a perfect travel companion for the α5000 camera.

Pricing and Availability

The Sony α5000 compact interchangeable lens camera will be available in March 2014 in silver, black and white for about $600 in a kit with a compact, versatile 16-50mm motorized zoom lens (model SEL-P1650).

The new, black-finish E 55-210mm (SEL-55210) zoom lens will be available in March for about $350.

The new camera and all compatible lenses and accessories will be available at Sony retail stores (http://www.store.sony.com) and other authorized dealers nationwide.
