Aus Unserer "Großen Schwester", der Yahoo Minolta group:
ZITATDear Michael et al:
Perhaps I should have known better than to JOKE with a German, which
is all that I meant to do below, without any prejudice, although I was
playing off of a stereotype (and am doing so again--as in the
"humorless Germans"...) Since I have only the greatest respect for M.
Hohner and what he has done for Minolta fans, allow me to apologize
even for an unintended slight, and to explain my own German blood:
My grandmother Olivia Newman (Neumann originally) was descended from
what I believe was a rather well-known family of musicians in Germany,
one of whom came to America in the early-to-mid 1800s, rose to some
prominence, and played in the orchestra at Ford's theater (he was
their the night that President Lincoln was shot). I have a newspaper
clipping mentioning this. So I take pride in my Germanic heritage,
even if I appear to show it in a strange way. Germany was, after all,
the pinnacle of the greatest modern civilization (Christendom, or
Christian Europe) until...well, uhh, umm, we all know "the rest of the
story" (of the first half of the 20th century) even if no one
understands exactly why and how it all happened.
Anyway, I just want to stay on Michael's good side, as I expect I'll
be turning to him for advice yet again sometime!
Respectfully yours,
Jim Holmes[/quote]
