ZITATCapacitors for the various models
- replacement capacitors that are used to control the electronic shutters in many Minolta X- & XG- series cameras. These capacitors are fitting replacement for the capacitor for this cameras. Below is a list of each capacitor and the camera that uses them:
6.3v 100uf: XG-M, X-70, X-7, XG-A
6.3v 220uf: X-370s, Vivitar V-50
4v 220uf 7mm: X-7a, X-370, X-9, X-300, X-300s, X-370n, XG-1n (newer models)
4v 220uf 5mm: X-700
Some models like the X-7 and the XG-A sometimes have a different type of capacitor installed so always be sure to remove the bottom plate on your camera and examine the capacitor first. The older XG-1, XG-2, XG-7, XG-9, X-500, and X-570 use a different type of capacitor and very rarely need replacing.
The common symptoms that the capacitor needs replacing is the light meter will work when you turn on the camera but it goes out and the shutters will not fire when depressing the shutter release button. To make sure this is the problem you can remove the bottom cover, usually held on with 2 or 4 small screws, and examine the capacitor. In early stages of capacitor failure you will see slight swelling or bulging of the capacitor and some seepage at the leads. More advanced indications are noticeable swelling/bulging and corrosion on the leads as shown in the XG-1n below.
There is no guarantee that this will be the only problem your camera has, but, if you are experiencing the symptoms above, chances are great that replacing this capacitor will do the trick and get your camera working again. The X-370, X7-A and X-300 will also show these symptoms if the solenoid goes bad, but it would not hurt to replace the capacitor first to be sure. A soldering iron is required to replace this item. One thing you should make note of: the capacitors Minolta installed in their cameras only have a 1000 hour life span. So, it is pretty much a guarantee that some day, if you have one of these cameras, the capacitor will go bad and will need replacing.
So p lease save this e-mail address and contact me if, and when you need help. If you have any questions, p lease email me bebay40@cableone.net . If you own an X-700 you have 2 capacitors to worry about. This is the only model that uses the short, black, 4v 220uf capacitor and there is a second identical capacitor on top just below the rewind knob in a very difficult location to work on.[/quote]
