In a notice sent to retailers and distributors around the world, and seen by BJP, Kodak has announced that "due to a steady decrease in sales and customer usage, combined with highly complex product formulation and manufacturing processes, Kodak is discontinuing three Ektachrome (color reversal) films."

The films are the Kodak Professional Ektachrome E100G, Kodak Professional Ektachrome E100VS Film and Kodak Professional Elite Chrome Extra Color 100.

"We estimate that, based on current sales pace, supplies of these films are expected to be available in the market for the next six to nine months; however, inventories may run out before then, depending on demand," says Kodak.

Speaking exclusively to BJP, a Kodak spokeswoman adds: "We've reviewed our portfolio and we told our partners that we would discontinue these three slide films. What we have constantly told everyone is that we will continue to make film as long as there's profitable demand. But, in the case of slide films, the decline has been pretty acute, and in addition to that, the complexity of the formulation and manufacturing of these films made it that we could no longer sustain them."

She adds: "This doesn't affect our Portra films, our Ektar and black-and-white films."

The discontinuation means that Kodak will no longer produce any colour reversal films - commonly used to create slides. However, it will continue to manufacture E-6 Chemicals.

Ich hätte es noch vor 2-3 Jahren nicht für möglich gehalten, wie schnell und wie komplett die Umstellung des Fotomarktes auf Digital passiert. Vor allem hätte ich vermutet, dass die vorhandene Basis an analogen Kameras noch für Jahre einen Verbrauch von Filmen garantiert, immerhin waren Kameras mal langfristige Anschaffungen. Das hat sich gründlich geändert. Sogar meine Eltern, beide in den 70ern, fotografieren mittlerweile digital - weil sie für Filme mittlerweile in die Stadt fahren müssten.

Aufgrund der konstanten Abnahme der Verkaufszahlen und Kundennachfrage sowie der sehr komplexen Produktrezepturen und Herstellungsprozesse stellt Kodak den Vertrieb der folgenden drei EKTACHROME (Farbumkehr-) Filme ein:

Den aktuellen Verkaufszahlen zufolge sind diese Filme wahrscheinlich noch die nächsten sechs bis neun Monate auf dem Markt erhältlich; die Lagerbestände sind abhängig von der Nachfrage möglicherweise jedoch bereits früher geleert.

Dies betrifft nicht die KODAK PROFESSIONAL Farbnegativfilme oder KODAK PROFESSIONAL Schwarzweißfilme, die als wichtiger Teil des KODAK PROFESSIONAL Film-Portfolio beibehalten werden.

Ein betrübtes Moin Moin!

Ich habe schon das Ende von Kodak Elite Chrome letztes Jahr nie so ganz überwinden können, aber das tut jetzt echt weh.
Ich war ja durchaus bereit, dann für mehr Geld die Ektachrome Filme zu kaufen. Aber jetzt der Wechsel zu Fuji... mit denen bin ich noch nie so recht warm geworden, aber es bleibt ja keine Wahl. Meine Restbestände reichen vielleicht noch bis Ende des Jahres, je nachdem wie oft ich dieses Jahr reise.
Damit ist Fuji dann ja mehr oder weniger Monopolist im Farbumkehrmarkt, oder gibt es außer diesem Rollei Digibase CR noch andere Diafilme, die nicht von Kodak oder Fuji stammen?
