Das Herz: Exzellente Bildqualität und hoher Detailreichtum

Das Herz der α850 ist der bewährte Exmor™ CMOS-Vollformatsensor mit 24,6 Megapixeln (effektiv). Er ist bekannt für besonders detailreiche Bilder mit lebendigen, naturgetreuen Farben und feinen Texturen. Die hochauflösenden Bilddaten des Vollformatsensors werden durch eine zweistufige Rauschminderung optimiert, die vor und nach der A/D-Wandlung vorgenommen wird. Die erste Stufe der Rauschreduzierung findet schon auf der analogen Seite statt, wenn das Licht auf den Vollformatsensor trifft und in elektrische Signale gewandelt wird. Der doppelte BIONZ™ Prozessor ist dafür ausgelegt, große Datenmengen schnell zu verarbeiten und optimiert in der zweiten Stufe die digitalisierten Daten während der Bildverarbeitung. Das Ergebnis sind Aufnahmen mit minimiertem Bildrauschen und scharfen Details. Die Kombination von extrem hoher nativer Sensorauflösung und fein abgestimmter Rauschreduktion ergibt eine beeindruckende Bildqualität, die selbst bei hoher Empfindlichkeit von ISO 6400 (im erweiterten ISO-Bereich) noch überzeugen kann.



Auch der präzise und extrem schnelle Autofokus der Kamera, der auch bewegte Motive sicher erfasst, wird Fotografen begeistern. Die α850 verfügt über neun AF-Sensoren, inklusive eines zentralen Doppelkreuzsensors. Zehn AF-Hilfssensoren präzisieren die Scharfeinstellung bei Verwendung des großen Fokusfeldes, beschleunigen das Finden des Schärfepunktes und verkürzen insgesamt die Fokussierungszeit des AF-Systems. Ein zentraler AF-Sensor verbessert die Fokussierung mit lichtstarken Objektiven (Blendenöffnungen ab F2,-) Über die professionelle Funktion AF-Feinanpassung können Korrekturwerte verschiedener Objektiven eingestellt und gespeichert werden.


Alles im Blick: Glas-Pentaprisma und Xtra Fine-LCD-Monitor

Das aus hochwertigem optischem Glas gefertigte Pentaprisma des Suchers zeigt ein besonders helles und klares Bild bei minimierter optischer Verzeichnung und einem großzügigen Bildfeld von 98 Prozent.

Die detailreiche Bilddarstellung übernimmt das große, kontrastreiche Xtra Fine LC-Display mit einer Bilddiagonale von drei Zoll (6,8 Zentimeter), das mit 921.000 Punkten selbst in heller Umgebung eine exakte Bildbeurteilung ermöglicht.


Komfortabel: Benutzerfreundliche Ausstattung

Wie alle DSLR-Kameras von Sony, verfügt auch die α850 über SteadyShot INSIDE™. Der gehäuseintegrierte Bildstabilisator arbeitet mit allen α Objektiv zusammen und erlaubt bis zu vier Lichtwerte längere Verschlusszeiten. Damit sorgt er für noch mehr kreativen Spielraum bei Freihandaufnahmen.

Eine weitere praktische Funktion ist die intelligente Vorschau: Schon vor der Aufnahme kann das Ergebnis von Belichtungsvariationen, Weißabgleich und Dynamikbereichsoptimierung auf dem Monitor beurteilt werden. Besonders bei komplexen Lichtstimmungen mit Lichtquellen unterschiedlicher Farbtemperatur ist dieses Feature ein unentbehrlicher Helfer.


Die Einstellung und Änderung vielfältiger Funktionen ist über die Fn-Taste besonders schnell und komfortabel. Sie aktiviert den Quick-Navi-Modus mit direktem Zugriff auf die wichtigsten Aufnahmeeinstellungen. Ein zweites, hintergrundbeleuchtetes Display auf der Kameraoberseite informiert auch bei ausgeschaltetem Hauptmonitor über die wichtigsten Aufnahmeparameter.

Dank hochstabilem Aluminium-Chassis und einem Gehäuse aus einer Magnesiumlegierung ist die α850 bestens für den rauen Fotoalltag gerüstet. Sucher, Kartenschacht, Bedienelemente und andere Bereiche verfügen zusätzlich über Gummidichtungen, um das Eindringen von Staub oder Feuchtigkeit zu minimieren. Zusätzlich wird der Vollformatsensor zweifach über einen Schutzmechanismus vor Staub geschützt, der beim Objektivwechsel eindringen kann.

Auch die Akkuleistung erlaubt ausgedehnte Foto-Shootings: Ein leistungsfähiger InfoLITHIUM™ Akku (NP-FM500H) ermöglicht ca. 880 Aufnahmen und gibt in 1%-Schritten Auskunft über die verbleibende Akkukapazität.

Nach der Foto-Tour lassen sich die aufgenommenen Bilder auch großformatig genießen: Ein BRAVIA™ Fernseher, oder ein anderes High Definition TV-Gerät, kann zusammen mit der α850 für beeindruckende Bildpräsentationen verwendet werden. Eine optimale Bilddarstellung ist auf BRAVIA™ Fernsehern dank der PhotoTV HD-Funktion möglich. Über eine als Zubehör erhältliche Fernbedienung kann die Präsentation auf dem Bildschirm komfortabel gesteuert werden. Ein zum Anschluss benötigtes HDMI-Kabel ist ebenfalls als Zubehör verfügbar.


Optionales Zubehör und SD-Kartenslot

Neben dem bekannten Memory Stick-Slot arbeitet die α850 auch mit CompactFlash Karten oder Microdrive. Die optional verfügbare und besonders schnelle Memory Stick HX-Serie bietet sich besonders für das neue DSLR-Modell an. Die 32 Gigabyte Variante erlaubt einen extra schnellen Datentransfer von bis zu 20 Megabyte pro Sekunde und die Aufnahme von tausenden hochauflösenden Bildern.

Der optionale Handgriff VG-C90AM fasst zwei zusätzliche Akkus (NP-FM500H) und erhöht damit ebenfalls die Zahl der Aufnahmen.

Neben dem bereits genannten Zubehör stehen auch eine Reihe attraktiver Accessoires und ein neues Objektiv zur Verfügung. Das SAL28-75mm F2.8 SAM liefert eine exzellente Bildqualität und ergänzt das Objektivportfolio, das nun insgesamt 28 Objektive und zwei Konverter umfasst. The new DSLR-A850 from Sony offers serious photo enthusiasts a step up to the creative possibilities of full-frame imaging at a compelling price.

Ruggedly built for unflinching pro-style handling and performance, the A850 shares the same 24.6 megapixel sensor and virtually all features of the flagship DSLR-A900, introduced last year. Like its full-frame sibling, the A850 fully exploits the creative possibilities of the α family of lenses that includes premium full-frame optics from Carl Zeiss, plus five high-performance G Lens models.

At the heart of the A850 is a full frame 24.6 effective megapixel Exmor™ CMOS sensor that captures flawless, detail-packed images with vibrant, lifelike colours and fine textures.

The purity of high-resolution image data captured by the full-frame sensor is optimised by two-stage noise reduction in both analogue and digital domains. Noise reduction is first applied as the full-frame sensor converts light to electronic signals. Dual BIONZ™ image engines process large amounts of digital data, applying finely-tuned noise reduction during image processing to deliver pictures with extremely high level of sharpness and minimal noise level. This combination of high native sensor resolution and powerful noise control techniques ensures superlative image quality, even at high sensitivity settings up to a maximum ISO 6400 (with expanded ISO range).

The camera’s optical glass pentaprism viewfinder aids accurate shot composition, offering an extremely bright view with minimal distortion and an approximate 98% field coverage.

Serious enthusiasts will also prize the camera’s fast, high-accuracy autofocus system that provides excellent framing freedom while making it easier to achieve optimum focus with moving subjects. The 9-point AF system is supplemented by 10 focus assist points to assist subject detection, improved out-of-focus detection to reduce focus hunting and a dedicated F2.8 sensor for enhanced AF accuracy with wide aperture lenses.

Shots can be viewed on the large, high contrast 3.0 type Xtra Fine LCD that offers an exceptionally high resolution (921k dot) for critical evaluation – even outdoors or in bright ambient light.

For greater creative control, an Intelligent Preview function indicates the effects of exposure, white balance, and D-Range Optimiser adjustments prior to shooting. This Preview is invaluable when composing complex scenes that may typically combine multiple light sources with different colour temperatures.

Touching the Fn button switches the display to Quick Navi mode, allowing convenient one-handed adjustment of key shooting parameters. A secondary backlit LCD panel on the top of the camera body gives useful confirmation of major settings, even when the main LCD is turned off.

In common with all other DSLR cameras from Sony, the A850 features SteadyShot INSIDE™. This in-body optical stabilisation system delivers up to 4 steps of anti-shake correction with all compatible lenses, opening up even greater creative possibilities when shooting handheld.

Like its full-frame sibling, the A850 is ruggedly built for dependable performance in gruelling conditions with a high-tensile aluminium chassis and all-magnesium alloy body shell. Viewfinder, card slots, controls and other sensitive areas are protected from dust and moisture by rubber seals. In addition, an anti-dust system guards the full-frame sensor from the effects of dust entering the body during lens exchange.

The supplied high-capacity InfoLITHIUM™ rechargeable Battery Pack (NP-FM500H) delivers power for up to 880 shots (approx.) per charge. Battery levels can be monitored in precise 1% increments, cutting uncertainty about remaining shooting time.

The camera can be connected to your BRAVIA™ or any HD TV (requires optional HDMI cable) for a big-screen view of your shots. On-screen image quality is optimised for superbly lifelike reproduction on BRAVIA™ models supporting PhotoTV HD. On-screen playback can be controlled via an optional wireless remote commander (RMT-DSLR1).

SAN DIEGO, August 27, 2009 — Aimed at experienced shooters looking for value and sophisticated SLR performance, Sony today introduced the full-frame α (alpha) DSLR-A850 camera and a new 28-75mm F2.8 lens.

The α850 model shares the same 24.6 megapixel sensor and most features of the flagship α900 camera, introduced last year, but will be available for just under $2000 (body only).

"Sony is bringing the benefits of a full-frame digital SLR camera to a broader group of consumers," said Kristen Elder, director of the Digital Imaging business at Sony Electronics. "The α850 strengthens Sony’s alpha DSLR line, which now offers models in each step from high-end professional down to the amateur enthusiast."

The α850 camera is designed to deliver ultra-fine picture quality with a high resolution, 24.6-megapixel, 35-mm full-frame Exmor™ CMOS sensor and fast image processing with dual BIONZ™ processing engines. It also offers high-speed continuous shooting of 24.6 megapixel images at up to three frames per second.

Ultra-Fine Images

The camera’s Exmor CMOS sensor delivers the photographic expressive power of wide angles and perspective that only a 35 mm full-frame sensor can offer, and is designed to take advantage of the resolving power of high-precision alpha lenses. Its high pixel count and large size provide enhanced image detail and a wider dynamic range for natural color reproduction and subtle tonal gradations.

Image processing gets a boost in speed and power from two BIONZ processing engines. Large amounts of data captured by the 24.6-megapixel sensor can be quickly processed to achieve a fast shooting response. Additionally, this dual BIONZ system applies advanced noise reduction algorithms producing images of exceptional quality and detail, especially at high ISO sensitivities.



The camera’s innovative intelligent preview function takes the guesswork out of setting up a shot and the hassle of taking multiple shots to achieve a desired effect.

After pressing the depth of field preview button, the camera "grabs" a RAW

preview image which is processed and displayed on the LCD screen. You can then fine tune white balance, determine the best level and effect of dynamic range optimization, adjust exposure compensation and check histogram data, all before you actually take the picture. Preview images are not recorded on the camera’s memory card, thus saving capacity.

The camera’s autofocus system features nine sensors with 10 assist points for improved tracking of moving subjects. A center dual cross sensor comprised of two horizontal and two vertical line sensors as well as a dedicated f/2.8 sensor are included to achieve greater precision, especially when using fast-aperture lenses.

Ultra-Bright Viewfinder with 98 Percent Coverage

The ultra-bright viewfinder with 98 percent field of view coverage and 0.74x magnification enables accurate framing and preview. It features a high-power condenser lens, an eyepiece with high reflective-index glass, and a multi-layer, anti-reflective coating on optical surfaces to deliver its extraordinarily bright view.

A mirror box features a parallel-link mirror mechanism that moves on two horizontal axes to accommodate both the large full frame mirror and the body-integrated image stabilization system without increasing the camera’s size.

Anti-Shake System for a Full-Frame Sensor

With its body-integrated SteadyShot INSIDE™ image stabilization, the camera achieves an anti-shake effect equivalent to shutter speeds faster by 2.5 to 4 stops. The anti-shake system stabilizes all Sony, Minolta and Konica-Minolta compatible lenses even wide angle or large aperture lenses.

Versatility to Unleash Creative Possibilities

Other key features aimed to expand creative options include the Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) with five levels of user-selectable correction as well as DRO bracketing for enhanced scene analysis and graduation optimization. EV bracketing with ±2EV range makes it easy to create high dynamic range composite images.

With the camera’s HDMI™ output and Photo TV HD mode, your creative output can be enjoyed on a compatible HD television. This mode brings the look of actual printed photography to the television, by fine-tuning such image parameters as sharpness, gradation, and color reproduction.

The a850 model features a 3-inch (diagonally), Xtra Fine LCD™ screen (921K) making it possible to check focus and image quality with accuracy. It incorporates an easy-to-see display with a quick navigation menu to easily access common functions without interrupting your creative flow. A backlit LCD panel sits on top of the camera and displays key settings.

Schön wäre es, wenn der Handgriff tatsächlich zwei zusätzliche Batterien aufnehmen würde (wie der VC-9 der Dynax 9), aber leider muß beim VG-C90AM die Batterie aus der Kamera entfernt werden, so daß mit Hilfe des VG-C90AM nur eine zusätzliche Batterie möglich wird, also insgesamt zwei, statt insgesamt drei, wie beim VC-9. Ein durchaus gravierender Unterschied... (Der gleiche Dokumentationsfehler findet sich auch in der Presseankündigung für die DSLR-A500 und DSLR-A550.)

Noch ein paar Ungereihmtheiten, die mir in der von Sony ausgegebenen Vergleichstabelle zwischen der DSLR-A900 und der DSLR-A850 aufgefallen sind: Offenbar basiert diese Tabelle auf einer alten Liste, die zu Zeiten des DSLR-A900 Verkaufsstarts ausgegeben wurde und in der einige Zubehörteile schon damals unter falschen Namen gelistet wurden:

Sony Alpha Zwillingsblitz: "HVL‐FMT24AM" -> HVL‐MT24AM
Einstellscheibe "L": "FDA‐L1AM" -> FDA‐FL1AM
Einstellscheibe "M": "FDA‐M2AM" -> FDA‐FM1AM

Die drei erwähnten Memory Sticks aus der Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX-Serie heißen in der Presseankündigung MSHX8GB3, MSHX16GB3, MSHX32GB3, auf Sonys Webseite jedoch MSHX8GB, MSHX16GB und - ganz neu - MSHX32GB. Darüberhinaus ist der in der aktuellen Presseankündigung noch genannte GPS-Geotagger/Logger GPS‐CS1KASP schon lange nicht mehr aktuell, das aktuelle Modell heißt GPS‐CS3KA und ist viel empfindlicher.

Vielleicht sollte man an dieser Stelle noch erwähnen, daß es neben dem aufgeführten HDMI-Kabel VMC-15MHD mit anderhalb Metern Länge auch noch ein HDMI-Kabel VMC-30MHD mit drei Metern Länge gibt.
